Computer and other services

• BugWare -- BugWare is a Windows 95 program designed to capture paleontological data and create charts and graphs from the data. Data can be input via mouse click, keyboard, and digipad. A voice input module is under development. Range charts are created via a powerful interface with MS Excel. Various types of charts can be created directly from BugWare to Excel, including graphical (variable width bars, sawtooth curves, histograms), letters (A=abundant, C=common, etc.), or numeric (raw data counts). Charts may also include electric logs, paleobathymetry curves, and several other features.   BIOSTRAT-PAK by PAZ Software is an interactive biostratigraphical analysis and data visualization package. It consists of a group of associated applications including biostratigraphic analysis and range charting software (WellPlot), data collection and quality assurance (Counter), interactive taxon data retrieval (LookUp), optimum sequence ranking and scaling of stratagraphic events (RC-RASC), and cross-plotting of associated events (ShawPlot). Many data filters and utilities are provided with the software package.

  Associated applications that interact with WellPlot output or help prepare and plot geological data are sold separately based on individual need. This sales method keeps price down for the student or academic who does not have access to log or dipmeter data, etc. and may only need to make abundance type pollen diagrams.

• ZoneCor - Zonation and Correlation Software -- The ZoneCor program is a geological tool that computes a probabilistic range chart from biostratigraphic well or outcrop data. The range chart can serve as a basis for biostratigraphic zonation. As input the program will accept both fossil ranges as well as stratigraphic event data.

Lycopodium clavatum tablets

• Lycopodium clavatum tablets are used for spiking preparations in order to determine absolute abundances of palynomorphs. They are used extensively in Quaternary studies but are becoming increasingly popular in Pre-Quaternary analyses. The World's sole manufacturer and distributor is the Department of Quaternary Geology at the University of Lund, Sweden, which gives instructions on ordering.
