James E. Canright served as President of AASP from 1979-1980 and as President of IFPS 1992 - 1996. The biography for his candidacy for President of AASP reads,

James E. Canright - Professor of Botany at Arizona State University. He joined AASP in 1968 and his past service to our society includes: (1) member of the 1973 Nominating Committee, (2) general chairman of the 11th annual meeting in Phoenix and (3) he has attended all eleven annual meetings of the Board of Directors.

Jim was also the only person to attend all 9 IPCs, up to the time of IPC-10, in China.
