Richard H. Hevly

Richard (Dick) Hevly graduated from the University of Arizona in 1964 and immediately began teaching at Northern Arizona University. Dick's research has primarily been archeological palynology, but he has also published on the palynology of lake sediments, and early surface-sample (contemporary pollen rain) studies for the American Southwest. He has been innovative in his approach to archeological research and introduced the technique of "pollen washes" to North American palynology (Hevly, 1964). His dissertation (1964) was based on a detailed comparison between archeological (site-derived sediments) and lacustrine sediment from nearby Laguna Salada.
