Stelck, a former University of Alberta geology professor, is a renowned Canadian paleontologist, stratigrapher and teacher. His pioneering paleontological and stratigraphical research in western Canada has proved to be of immense value in the search for oil and gas. The following are a few among his numerous awards: Elected to the Royal Society of Canada (1960); the Logan Medal of the Geological Association of Canada (1972) – its highest award; appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1997; awarded with an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree in 2003.
